Brightwater Meo has worked on BHP New Zealand Steel’s site since construction.
In recent years, Brightwater Meo has become a preferred supplier of engineering services and has been part of most onsite projects, including:
The Melter reline project, involving crucible, instrumentation and electrical design and site supervision;
The MHF Cogeneration plant;
The paint line interlocked safety guarding project – which involved mechanical guards with safety PLC interlocking

A utility service upgrade – including recycled water, Waikato River water pipeline realignment, Melter plant hydrogen and natural gas safety initiatives;
Pneumatic conveying of mill scale for injection into the molten iron ladles – involving mechanical, electrical and control design with full project and construction management.
NEW ZEALAND ALUMINIUM SMELTER
Brightwater Meo is currently involved in major projects with the New Zealand Aluminium Smelter.
They include:
Design and site supervision of a Modicon Quantum and various electrical projects;
Modification of a high-tension switch yard – design, drawings and commissioning;
Design, procurement and site supervision of crucible repair station – including a refractory curing heater;
A feasibility study for plant efficiency improvements; and
A waste oil handling facility.
NOVAGEN (AUSTRALIAN PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANY)
Brightwater Meo undertook a ‘turnkey’ design and build project on a process plant to extract estrogen from product.
The company’ role included Project Management, Mechanical, Structural, Electrical, Automation and Instrumentation design.
The final result was a skid-mounted unit comprising of four sections that were transported onsite from offsite fabrication facilities.
Full pipe work layouts and isometrics, including material takeoffs, were produced – which considerably reduced fabrication and installation times.
The project had physical and time constraints, that were met to the satisfaction of the client.
